Steve Park Finishes 19th at Phoenix International Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

AVONDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 14, 2010)- Steve Park drove to a 19th-place finish Friday night at Phoenix International Raceway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Lucas Oil 150. Piloting the No. 46 Van Dyk Baler Bollegraaf Lubo USA Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota Tundra. Park completed his 2010 NCWTS season in the desert at PIR.

The No. 46 Eddie Sharp Racing team arrived at the Arizona track ready to compete for a top spot in the second-to-last race of the NCWTS season. In the first practice, the team utilized the time to run laps with a fast time of 28.445 seconds (126.560 mph) around the one-mile track. Thursday night, Park laid down a lap of 28.035 seconds (128.411 mph) in the final practice of the weekend, positioning the team 16th-quickest in the session.

The team got back to the track Friday for qualifying, and Park laid down a lap of 27.954 seconds (128.783 mph). The lap time landed him in the 20th position to start the race later Saturday night.

The sun went down across the desert on Friday night as the green flag flew on Lucas Oil 150, and Park looked to improve on his 25th-place finish in his last NCWTS start at Kentucky Speedway in Sept. 2010. Rolling off 20th, Park took the opportunity to work his way to 18th by the time the field came to the second lap. By the ninth lap, the No. 46 fell back to 22nd in traffic but continued to show prowess as he posted times quicker than the next six cars in front of him.

The first yellow flag flew on lap 17 with the No. 89 of Chris Lafferty hitting the wall. Crew chief Jefferson Hodges made the call to stay out, and the No. 46 restarted under green on lap 23 in the 21st position. The veteran driver found an opportunity to move past Mario Gosselin and Brad Sweet to take over the 19th position on lap 29. "You are quicker than a lot of the drivers in front of you," Hodges radioed to the driver. "Don't waste any time when you get to them."

Park cleared the No. 62 of Greg Pursley for the 18th position by lap 34 and looked to catch up to the No. 23 of Jason White for the 17th position. The field slowed for another caution on lap 53, with Park running in the 17th spot. The No. 46 came down pit road for the first pit stop of the day. The ESR crew went to work, and made track bar and tire pressure adjustments and added four tires and fuel. The quick stop helped Park gain one spot off pit road and moved him to the 16th position.

The green flag waved on lap 59, and spotter Carl Hartman soon directed his driver out of trouble. "There is a spin behind you," Hartman said. "Just keep digging." The multi-car accident brought out the yellow on lap 60.

Clint Bowyer led the field back to green on lap 63 with Park in the 16th position. Caught up in traffic, Park fell to the 18th position and held steady until another yellow flag waved on lap 89 with a car spinning on turn four. Park reported to his team that he was losing a lot of grip on the track as the night wore on. Pit road opened, and the No. 46 drove to the ESR pit stall on lap 91 for the final stop of the night. The crew put on four tires, added fuel and made a track bar adjustment to help the handling of the car. Another quick pit stop by the No. 46 crew helped Park pick up two spots, restarting on lap 95 in the 16th position.

"Elbows up. 40 to go, Park," encouraged Hodges. "You are much quicker than the drivers in front of you. Go get 'em." The caution flew for the final time on lap 113 with Ron Hornaday hitting the wall on lap 113. In the 14th position, Park relayed to the crew that he had no grip and was just going to have to search around for the final laps.

The green flag waved on 118, with Park restarting on the outside in the 14th position. The No. 46 fell back to 19th, telling the team that he was having a really hard time turning the race car. As the last car on the lead lap, Park held steady in the 19th position.

Bowyer grabbed the win in the Lucas Oil 150. With a 12th-place finish, Todd Bodine clinched the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship with one race left in the season. Park would end up 19th in the race results.

"Overall, it was a disappointing finish," said Park. "We qualified 20th, and as the race got started, we struggled, which I think caught us all out of the blue. We were hoping for a late caution to make some changes on a pit stop, but it never came, so we had to deal with that. We restarted late in the race on the outside, and the track was chattering the tires really bad. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed. We have a lot of confidence in this team, and it is only our third race. We have some work to do, but I really believe that we are going to keep pushing and continue to get better. I have to thank everyone for their support, and we are going to keep digging for the next season."

The PIR race concludes the 2010 NCWTS schedule for Park. He finished the season with three starts and a high-finish of 18th at Chicagoland Speedway. "I have to thank everyone at Eddie Sharp Racing, the Hartmans, Van Dyk Baler, Bollegraaf, Lubo USA and all of the fans for all of their support this season," said Park. "We are working on the logistics for next season, and I hope to be able to return to the series full-time next season."

Tommy Baldwin Racing & Steve Park to Honor Modified Series Champion Richie Evans

Asking Fans to Contribute to be a Part of the Legacy

May 27, 2010 (Mooresville, NC) -- Tommy Baldwin Racing and driver Steve Park are pleased to announce that they will be entering a fan sponsored, Richie Evans tribute car at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona on July 3. The #36 Chevrolet will feature a throwback orange and black paint scheme with the fans’ names sponsoring the car integrated into the design.

Richie Evans, “The King of Modified Racing”, won eight consecutive Modified Championships from 1978 to 1985. In 1979, Evans posted 54 top-five finishes in 60 Modified races. From Quebec to Florida, Evans racked up more than 400 career victories. His achievements have been heralded by the International Motorsports Hall of Fame as, “One of the supreme accomplishments in motorsports.”

“Richie Evans is one of the guys we all worked hard to beat and to be around,” Baldwin said. “I always looked up to him."

Evans was fatally injured at the age of 44 during practice for the Winn-Dixie 500 Triple header at Martinsville Speedway in 1985. At the time of the accident he had already clinched the Winston Modified Tour championship, now known as the Whelen Modified Tour.

"I hope that this will be the first in a line of tributes to some of the best racers in the world who inspired me and many others - modified racers,” Baldwin said.

Fan sponsors will choose from different tiers of sponsorship that range from $20 -$10,000 allowing them to actively participate in a memoriam of the greatest racers in the Modified Series, a junior league to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Each sponsorship package buys fans different levels of involvement, including everything from their name on the car, to pit passes, garage tours, and even featured placement on the hood of the car. Any contributions exceeding the total amount of $125,000 will be donated to the Victor Junction Gang Camp by TBR.

Two-time Sprint Cup Series winner Steve Park will drive the TBR machine in the Daytona race. This will be Park’s first trip back to Daytona since he won the pole in 2003.

“I’m extremely honored to be driving a car that pays homage to one of the greatest race car drivers of all time,” said Park. “Richie is respected by so many drivers and he really made his mark in this sport. This is a really neat way to get the fans involved while paying homage to one of the greats.”

Quick comments from Steve on New Hampshire:

I consider New Hampshire a home track for me.  I love racing there.  We definitely have been running well and I think we have a shot at a victory.  If we post a good finish the next two races, Loudon and Dover, we definitely have a shot at a great finish points wise.  We’re going to have some fun, and I hope to see the Sparkies at the track.

Thompson quick comments - Looking forward to getting back to Thompson. Definitely a place I spent a lot of time at during the Mod days. We ran good there last year..got into some trouble..I think we have a top 5 car for this year..would love to bring home a victory at one of my "home" tracks in New England. Looking forward to seeing friends and family… and may be play a bit of golf…it will be a blast.

Thoughts on Loudon - we ran really well.. We were upfront with the race winding down..got spun..fought my way back up to the front. Was fun, just would have liked a better finish.

June 18, 2009
Park quick comments on the last race at Watkins & upcoming Loudon - Came home 6th at Watkins, which was a little disappointing... oil line cracked with a few laps remaining...however proud to bring home a top-ten finish. Really looking forward to Loudon. I've always enjoyed the racing their. I will be on ESPNs round table on Monday after the race...(I think it'sMonday)...so keep your eyes open for that. Take care.

Steve Park Races Hard And Captures Third At Phoenix International Raceway

Phoenix, AZ (April 16, 2009) – Running his second season with NDS Motorsports, Steve Park regularly competes in the Camping World East series driving the No. 35 Chevrolet, Waste Management Recycle America. However, his second race of the 2009 race season would be at Phoenix International Raceway in the NASCAR Camping World West series, Jimmie Johnson Foundation 150.

Going into this race Park’s main goal was to keep the momentum going from his first race, which was the East opener at Greensville Pickens Speedway. Park qualified fourth and finished seventh. I believe we have a top five ability, with last year being our first year together; it was a learning and growing year. There were a lot of ups and downs and due to circumstances the top five’s didn’t happen. In the winter we made the right improvements to optimize the team’s strengths so we can achieve our goals.

As the race day unfolded, practice sessions were utilized with Park’s experience from the past and the team ability in preparing the car. “The team did such a great job in preparing the car for me” says Park. In qualifying, he placed fifth with a time of 28.036 out of thirty-five. When asked how he felt about his qualifying time, “Pretty good, but felt my car was better than I was.” “Turn one and two went well, but turn three I under drove and turn four I over drove.”

Starting the race in fifth, Park took the lead in lap 86 and held on till lap 117. Jason Bowels took lead on lap 118. Park and Bowels swapped lead three other times till Park took lead on lap 149. On the final few laps a caution was out, and when the restart went with a green white checkered Steve Park raced hard and finished third.

Park commented about the race, “Racing the last ten laps I knew I was up against some odds with tires and such.” “This was just good hard, clean racing and haven’t been involved in a race like this for over two years.” “I mean I was impressed with the West drivers with there race savvy….no damage and such.”

I’d like to thank all the guests of Waste Management Recycle America that came out to
